Loved this fun, whimsical biography of Ben Franklin and so did my granddaughter! I like to think I know a lot about Ben having taught US History for years, but I learned a few new things, too. Educational and fun!

At less than fifty pages, a basic biography of this great man that's suitable for intermediate grade students. The basic information is here, his early life, his many interests and contributions, and more than a little focus on his work with electricity. Pretty basic, pretty accurate, gives some sense of Franklin and his times, but is not well suited as an attention-grabber. A youngster having to do a report on a famous American, would do well to start here. It's accurate and readable.

I bought this book for my daughter who lives in Chicago. In the 80's Barbara Phillips was my inspiring teacher at San Francisco State. We used the second edition then, long before globalization. I am sure my daughter who is a global director of an international company will enjoy this edition as much as the 2nd ed. opened my eyes to the interconnectedness of urban phenomena.

This book is extremely interesting for people who want to understand how the cities work. Especially United States cities and, for someone like me (inter exchange student) it helped me to realize many historical aspects of the States. I highly recommend this for those who study Anthropology and Global Societies. And this purchase was really good, the book was still in good shape

About the Author
Richard Krueger is professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota. He is an internationally recognized authority on the use of focus group interviewing within the public environment. For 25 years he served as evaluation leader for the University of Minnesota Extension Service followed by 10 years teaching graduate courses in program evaluation and research methodology. He is a former president of the American Evaluation Association and a member of the Qualitative Research Consultants Association. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. �In his spare time he repairs his motorcycle, swaps stories with friends, and shops for tools at the local hardware store. Maybe you’ve seen him there.�

Mary Anne Casey is an evaluator, writer, and teacher. She has been an evaluation consultant at the international, national, state, and local levels on topics relating to health, public policy, community development, agriculture, and the environment. Mary Anne has had the privilege of asking questions and listening, and the challenge of providing useful, enlightening results to clients. She relishes analysis and finding just the right way to convey what people have shared. She weaves the lessons she has learned into her work, her writing on focus group interviewing, and her teaching at the University of Minnesota, University of South Florida, and University of Michigan. Mary Anne previously worked for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the state of Minnesota. She received her PhD from the University of Minnesota. She gets her best insights while in the shower or on long walks.

A textbook that is enjoyable to read!

My dissertation chair suggested that I consider a focus study for my research. She suggested that I find a text about focus groups and further went on to recommend a SAGE text on the subject. Well I hit the jackpot with this one. I sat down yesterday morning with trepidation-- however that feeling soon changed. This is a scholarly book that is entertaining. I am halfway through with it and will easily finish it today.

Great, great resource for anyone starting out in focus group research. The authors cover just about every aspect of focus groups, from planning to conducting international groups. If you are interested in the field, then I highly recommend this book; it will get you started off on the right foot.

A truly practical guide from design to report

This is truly a practical guide that will walk you through the entire process of designing your focus group project, sampling, question design and routing, data analysis and report writing. Krueger writes in a clear, non-academic style that still leans on current research and theory with proper citations. You could use this guide to complete your first focus group successfully. The book has a plastic spiral binding which I guess must give it that "practical" feel. Lots of tips and tricks abound through the book.

Sheehan won the School of Journalism and Communication’s Marshall Award for Innovative Teaching in 2001 and 2010. She is currently a Fellow for the Society of New Communications Research and has been a two-time Page Legacy Scholar and two-time Dave and Nancy Petrone Faculty Fellow.

Skip it, its an agenda in poor disguise.

If you find yourself wondering what is happening on college campuses lately, and why current college students are so incredibly coddled. This book is a good example. Its full of reasoning like "In this ad, you can see that the man is clearly taller than the woman. Thus he is in a position of power over her". The prologue is two pages of explaining and apologizing for being American centric.

If you're looking for great resources for the classroom or elsewhere, skip it. Find something that doesn't have an agenda dripping from every page (right OR left).
