Fun Shifter Tail...I mean Tale

Very well written. Liked Lettie a lot, was wondering how long it would take him to stop being an uber jerk. Lettie might have solved a lot of her problems (and had to eat less peanut butter) if she would allow the guy to finish his sentences, but then where would the story be? Quick and fun. Exceptt:

Be warned - there is a gang rape scene. It isn't actually described at first, or graphically, but it's a pretty horrific thing for any person to go through - even "off stage". So if that's a trigger, beware.

Great shifter story

A different twist on a shifter story. Enjoyed looking at the characters growth. The story takes you from kids in love to adults and all the problems that come with being an adult. There is sexual assault in this story.

Even hot, sexy shifters have marital problems...

Most romance books are like fairy tales "and they lived happily ever after." I liked the fact that this book starts after the couple has been together for awhile. They have a real problem actually communicating. They talk at each other, but not to each other. He especially cannot seem to voice his true feelings and, as a result, she misunderstands many of the things he says. Case in point, he tells her she can't keep living there in their old house. What he means is he wants her to move in with him, but he just can't seem to think straight and phrase things right when he's around her. She leaves and gets a job and a place to live at he local grocery store. He grows more and more frustrated as he continually tries things to get her back and continually messes up. I was riveted...couldn't put the book down as I waited to see how they would learn to communicate, trust and love each other again. Great read!

About the Author
V. Susan Bennett-Armistead is currently a parent educator and early literacy specialist for Williamston Community Schools as well as an early childhood professional development consultant. Her doctorate from Michigan State University will be in teacher education with emphasis on early literacy development. Prior to pursuing her Ph.D., Susan worked for fourteen years in the early childhood community as a teacher, director, and advocate for young children and their families. Currently the parents of three children, Susan and her husband await the completion of the adoption of a fourth.

Nell K. Duke is an associate professor of teacher education and educational psychology, an affiliate of the program in school psychology, and co-director of the Literacy Achievement Research Center (LARC) at Michigan State University. Duke received her Bachelor's degree from Swarthmore College and her Masters and Doctoral degrees from Harvard University. Duke's work focuses on early literacy development, particularly among children living in poverty. Her specific areas of expertise include development of informational literacies in young children, comprehension development and instruction in early schooling, and issues of equity in literacy education. Duke is the recipient of the International Reading Association Outstanding Dissertation Award, the National Council of Teachers of English Promising Researcher Award, the International Reading Association Dina Feitelson Research Award, and the National Reading Conference Early Career Achievement Award. She is co-author of the books Reading and Writing Informational Text in the Primary Grades: Research-Based Practices; Literacy and the Youngest Learner: Best Practices for Educators of Children from Birth to Five; Beyond Bedtime Stories: A Parent's Guide to Promoting Reading, Writing, and Other Literacy Skills From Birth to 5; and co-editor of the book Literacy Research Methodologies. Duke teaches preservice, inservice and doctoral courses in literacy education at Michigan State, speaks and consults widely on literacy education, and is an active member of several literacy-related organizations. Duke also has a strong interest in improving the quality of educational research training in the U.S.

Annie M. Moses is a graduate student in learning, technology, and culture at Michigan State University. Her research interests are in aspects of early literacy development and early childhood development, particularly with respect to educational television programs, shared book reading and socio-emotional development. She has worked in a variety of early childhood settings.

Essential Resource

As a literacy researcher, teacher educator, parent and grandparent, I found myself captivated by this comprehensive text on emergent literacy. The authors show how parents and eary childhood specialists can make literacy learning accessible to all children through everyday practices, in a variety of settings. It is an excellent example for how to present research in application for practitioners. I plan to put a copy in my five month old grandson's library and keep several on hand. I will give this book as a gift to new parents and use it in my course instruction for literacy education.

Very comprehensive!

This book is perfect for someone who hasn't been able to take a early literacy course. It covers language and literacy development, ideas for providing literacy rich materials and activities, and how to bring literacy into every environment you create. I learned so much from each chapter that I will use in my work with young children. I also really appreciated the many photos and samples in the book. They make it even easier to put the ideas into practice right away.

Great book.

This is an excellent book, very well written. I would also recommend "SAS Close Quarters" by Joseph Lee Townley. It is also an inside story and a great read.

I read this book when I was on hoilday and although the facts in it are interesting it seemed more like a list of dates and names, over all though if you want to know about the opperations that have gone on it's a good book

About the Author
Dr Charles Ringma is a Dutch-born Australian citizen trained at the Reformed Theological College in Geelong and The University of Queensland Brisbane Australia. He has worked in urban mission in Australia Philippines and Canada and has taught in seminaries and universities in those three countries. He is currently Emeritus Professor of Mission Studies Regent College Vancouver.

Daily Bonhoeffer - WHat more could you ask for?

This liitle book has been with me since the first day I bought it and I haven't missed many days since.

This book continues to amaze me in the very solid insights it instills day by day. One should be warned: these are not from your typical close minded point of view, but rather a honest down to earth interpretation of Bonhoeffer at his best. Dr. Ringma's application to daily life is very insightful and the short 'prayer and thought of the day' usally drive the point home.

Any one whom as even slightly raised an eyebrow at the thought of Bonhoeffer will cherish this tiny book.

Bonhoeffer For Dummies

If anyone is not familiar with Dietrich Bonhoeffer's writings, this little sample, along with the emphases by Charles Ringma, would make a nice introduction. There is, by far, more of Ringma than there is of Bonhoeffer, but his elaborations are thought-provoking and insightful. Especially helpful is the concluding thought summary which provides food for reflection throughout the day.

Too much Ringma, not enough Bonhoeffer...

Since I appreciate the challenges that Dietrich Bonhoeffer offers to any of us who are brave enough to wade through his rather dense writing, I was excited to utilize "Seize the Day with Dietrich Bonhoeffer" as a daily devotional this year. But much to my surprise and chagrin, there is very little of Bonhoeffer in the book. Each day begins with a tiny snippet of Bonhoeffer's writing, followed by considerably more content from the compiler, Charles Ringma. Many days, the book includes literally only one sentence from Bonhoeffer. Though Ringma's thoughts were fine, they did not challenge and provoke me as Bonhoeffer does. And I didn't buy this book to hear from Charles Ringma. I wanted to hear from Dietrich Bonhoeffer. So, after a few months, I put down the book and do not plan to finish it. If you're looking for a substantive daily devotional from the pen of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, you'll have to keep looking, as his place in this one is far too limited.
